Welcome to W.O.C.E (Women Organizing, Collaborating, and Elevating). The acronym is pronounced Woke.

The group was inspired by a conversation between two professional women who believe it is possible (and necessary) to harness the power of an extensive women’s network by using our collective talents, backgrounds and resources to be changemakers, mentors, organizers, advocates and a leading source of information about various women’s issues and the numerous professions we represent.

W.O.C.E members include Educators, Journalists, Attorneys, Directors, CEOs, Physicians, Nurses, Entrepreneurs, Media, and Entertainment professionals, Administrators, and Consultants, sharing resources relating to employment, education, community service, and women’s health and wellness. Our discourse will emphasize entrepreneurship, civic responsibilities, taking care of our families, education, and professional networking.

We intend to grow, and progress and become an organization with a voice that moves the needle. W.O.C.E and its sphere of knowledge and influence will set us apart and allow us to make a difference in our communities and beyond.

It is no secret that when we come together in furtherance of a common goal, we are a force to be reckoned with. The Women’s March of 2017, the largest single-day protest in U.S. history, was a source of inspiration for this group and proof it is possible to come together, exact change, be heard, and make history.

“Now, more than ever, we need to prepare our young women to take over in a world full of trials, uncertainty, obstacles, and competition.” ― Liz Faublas

Kamala Harris Makes History as First Woman and Woman of Color as Vice President

From the earliest days of her childhood, Kamala Harris was taught that the road to racial justice was long.

She spoke often on the campaign trail of those who had come before her, of her parents, immigrants drawn to the civil rights struggle in the United States — and of the ancestors who had paved the way.

They Strolled To The Polls. Here’s How Kamala Harris’ Young AKA Sisters Feel About Her Victory.

Before embarking on her political career, Harris was a politically active student, having participated in South African-apartheid protests and sparred with campus Republicans at Howard University, the alma mater of Thurgood Marshall, the first Black justice on the Supreme Court. While at Howard, Harris, the daughter of Indian and Jamaican immigrants, pledged Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated (AKA), the nation’s first Black sorority. At 300,000 members strong, AKA is a powerful network of influential women, and has often been described as Harris’ “secret weapon.”

Biden names first female 4-star admiral to Pentagon transition team

Retired Admiral Michelle Howard joins more than 20 others making up the “Agency Review Team” for the Pentagon. According to Biden officials, they will be responsible for reviewing current operations in the Department of Defense in order to ensure a “smooth transfer of power.”

The team will be led by Kathleen Hicks, currently director of the International Security Program at the Center for Strategic and International Studies. Ms. Hicks earlier served as undersecretary of defense for policy in the Obama Administration.

Maren Morris celebrated Black women in country music during CMAs

"I just want them all to know how much we love them back and just check out their music after this. It's Linda Martell, Yola, Mickey Guyton, Rissi Palmer, Brittney Spencer, Rhiannon Giddens," Morris said. "There are so many amazing Black women that pioneered and continue to pioneer this genre, and I know they're going to come after me, and they've come before me, but you've made this genre so, so beautiful. I hope you know that we see you. Thank you for making me so inspired as a singer in this genre."

How Stacey Abrams and her band of believers turned Georgia blue

The people leading the effort to flip the state — a group composed of Black female elected officials, voting rights advocates and community organizers — understood why Democrats had often fallen short in the South the past decade. Topping the list of reasons: the region’s long-running conservative bent, voter suppression tactics by the right and the failure by Democrats to mount a sustained voter outreach program.

Emily Harrington is the first woman to free-climb the Golden Gate route up El Capitan

Her head bloodied and bandaged, and her blond hair in a messy bun, Emily Harrington pulled herself over the last lip of El Capitan and into the clear, still night above Yosemite National Park, 21 hours 13 minutes and 51 seconds after she began her ascent.

Deputy Wins Against Incumbent To Become County’s First Female LGBTQ Sheriff

“The current sheriff and I got into a pretty serious disagreement about the practice of him not holding officers accountable for use of force and harassment of women, female officers, and female inmates,” McGuffey told LGBTQ Nation when she first announced her plans to run. “He fired me. So after about a year or so of contemplating, I decided I can do a better job than him.”

Cori Bush Is Officially the First Black Woman Ever Elected to Congress in Missouri

The Black Lives Matter activist easily defeated Republican opponent Anthony Rogers.

It was hardly a close race. Bush defeated her opponent Anthony Rogers by earning a whopping 85 percent of the vote. "This is definitely a night to remember," Bush said in her acceptance speech. "This has been a historic day from the beginning to the end."

50,000 Toy Cars Are Being Gifted to Young Girls to Challenge Gender Stereotypes

Mercedes-Benz partnered with Matchbox to make Ewy’s car into a toy version and gift it to girls all over the country. Now, on National STEM/STEAM Day, both companies have announced that 50,000 young girls across the nation will not only get toy cars, but also engage in programs tied to science, technology, engineering, and math to challenge gender stereotypes.

Misty Copeland Explains How—and Why—She Took Her Haters Head-On After They Went Viral

"I just try not to get caught up in reviews and reading things on the internet because they don't know you, and people don't know your journey, and I think that especially in America, especially in New York, when people come to see ballet, I think everyone kind of feels like they're a critic," Copeland explained.

New Mexico Becomes the First State to Elect All Women of Color to the House

"We knew that that was going to be an all-female delegation because there were six major party candidates who were all women running, so no matter how the race came out, you were going to have an all-female delegation," Nancy Cordes, chief congressional correspondent at CBS News, said on Wednesday morning.

St. Louis woman becomes first Black female Harley-Davidson technician

"There are a lot of Black female Harley riders, or just Black female riders in general," McGowan said. "We need to be shown more. My mother, who is a strong, proud Black woman, rides her own motorcycle. I have aunts and cousins who all ride together. I mean, we just did a female unity ride for Labor Day. I believe there were at least 300 or more female riders out there, and it was incredible."

The 67-Year-Old Who Became the First Woman to Solo Hike the Entire Appalachian Trail

People might not have been surprised by Gatewood's perseverance if they had known what she survived to get there. She was born in Gallia County, Ohio in 1887 into a poor family of 15 children, and her father, a Civil War amputee, was a heavy drinker.

Simone Leigh Is First Black Woman to Represent U.S. at Venice Biennale

“I feel like I’m a part of a larger group of artists and thinkers who have reached critical mass,” Ms Leigh, 52, said. “And despite the really horrific climate that we’ve reached, it still doesn’t distract me from the fact of how amazing it is to be a Black artist right now.”

Meet President Kiyundra Gulley: The Oak Cliff Chamber of Commerce Leads DFW in What It Truly Means to be Inclusive

"I asked him, ‘Where the Black people?’ He said, ‘Well, that’s why I hired you’. I responded, ‘So I’m the token?’ and he was like, ‘Well, yea…’ So over time I started thinking about goals, about how I wanted the organization to represent our Oak Cliff community."

American professional tennis player Serena Williams has won 23 Grand Slam singles titles and several Olympic gold medals.

Williams learned tennis from her father on the public courts in Los Angeles and turned professional in 1995, one year after her sister Venus. Many predicted Venus would be the first Williams sister to win a Grand Slam singles title, but it was Serena who accomplished the feat, winning the 1999 U.S. Open.
